The origins of Desenzano date back to the Roman times. In fact, the ancient Roman road, the Via Emilia, passed here linking Verona and Brescia.
As a part of the Centomiglia del Garda, organized by the sailing club Circolo Vela Gargnano, Desenzano historically hosts southern stage of the race, just few hundred meters from the breakwater structure. Crowds of sailing fans follow the race stages both from the water and from the ground.
